Cyber attacks against Critical National Infrastructure evolves, information sharing takes centre stage
As threats to our Critical National Infrastructure evolve and the actors staging such attacks become more sophisticated, it is paramount that we as an industry understand the necessity for public and private information sharing.
A recent ICS-CERT report uncovered 638 weaknesses in FY 2015 for the critical infrastructure sector. The top six areas for ICS were boundary protection, least functionality, authenticator management, identification and authentication, least privilege and allocation of resources. The report highlights an increase in demand for Design Architecture Assessment products and Network Architecture Verification and Validation. (source ICS CERT FY2015 Assessment reports).
Another report produced in 2015 by insurers Lloyds of London and the University of Cambridge's Centre for Risk Studies, "Business Blackout report," creates a scenario of a cyber attack on the East Coast US Power Grid that would cost the country as much as $1tn in economic loss. The report highlights loss of life as health and safety systems fail, a decline in trade as ports close, disruption to water supplies and chaos to transport systems.
Events are one of many ways we are able to share trusted information and the latest knowledge from global subject matter experts, government and infrastructure owners.
The Cyber Senate will be hosting its 3rd Annual ICS Europe and USA Conference this fall in both London England and Sacramento California, further addressing detection, mitigation, response and recovery strategies to assist industry in creating a common voice for critical national infrastructure resilience.
